Shadicats’ Taco Recipe

Shadicats’ Taco/Burrito Seasoning Recipe

Story time: One night El Boyfriendo requested Tacos/Burritos. We usually have a half of dozen taco seasoning packages on hand. But on this night, after starting to fry up the ground beef, I noticed we had none left. Tacos/Burritos is a favourite dish in our apartment. In a frenzy, I run to the internet for a solution. Surprisingly, we had most of the seasonings to make homemade taco seasoning. And, even more surprising, it tasted better than the pre-package seasoning we normally used…

I am still tweaking this recipe to my preference, but that is something that makes trying recipes fun. Experimenting with your taste buds. Torturing your love ones! Although, as taco seasonings go; nearly all have these ingredients just with different measurements. Experiment to find your level of yum.

Basically, we no longer use the pre-package taco seasonings.

Taco/Burrito Seasoning Recipe

TacoSeasoning_white

2 Tbsp chili powder
2 tsp cumin
2 tsp paprika
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp oregano flakes
1 tsp salt (to taste; less is healthier, more is tastier, too much and you’ve ruined the dish)
1 tsp black or white pepper
1 tsp white sugar (optional)
1 tsp chili flakes (optional)
Tabasco Sauce to taste

Optional
2 tsp flour or corn-starch to thicken

Directions

Use 3 – 4 tablespoons of the seasoning mix to every 1 lb of meat (ground beef, chicken, steak). Once the meat is cooked, add 1/2 to 1 cup of water and simmer for 15 minutes.
